AFS Sections

The American Folklore Society is home to almost 30 interest-group sections that serve as gathering places and forums within the Society for people with common interests in the field.

Some sections serve primarily as conversation groups, and simply hold gatherings at the Society’s annual meeting where section members can share news about work in their areas of interest. Other sections are more active; many, as you’ll see below, have their own web pages here, and most of those organize annual meeting paper sessions or produce their own publications, or both. A few sections give prizes to recognize and encourage good work in their area(s) of interest.

Follow the links below to the web pages of many AFS sections.

For information about sections with no link, please contact the AFS executive director. To join one or more AFS sections, please go to the AFS Membership page.
